idem telematics has scooped an award in the trailer telematics category for its modular Cargofleet Trailer Gateway solution at the IAA Commercial Vehicles 2016 fair in Hanover.
The telematics solution operates according to a simple principle. Its base box encompasses all the major functions required by carriers, including all the key vehicle tracking options, such as capacity utilisation reports, geofencing, route tracking etc. All the data captured by the EBS system is also available, which illuminates the vehicle's road behaviour, for example. Hauliers who require even greater functionality can expand the scope by connecting add-on modules (hubs) to the box. Among the options are a TempMonitor hub that serves as an interface to the reefer, an autonomous TempRecorder hub to log temperatures, a TireMonitor hub that watches over tyre pressures and temperatures, and a BrakePadMonitor hub that continuously checks for wear.
This modular design principle enables fleet operators to decide for themselves which functions best meet their needs. A further advantage of the system lies in its accommodation of function hubs that are yet to be made available – even these will connect simply to the base box. The system's open architecture also allows interfaces to third-party vendors' solutions. The Cargofleet Trailer Gateway clearly offers fleet operators a high degree of investment security.
This was one of the factors that proved compelling for the independent jury of prominent businesspeople, academics, trade journalists, end-users and experts. Apart from assessing the system's technological credentials, they also evaluated the advisory support provided to users, in particular its customer focus, and after-sales service. Thomas Piller, Managing Director of idem telematics, and Dr. Markus Kliffken, Member of the Management Board Innovation Management at BPW, received the award during a ceremony at the IAA Commercial Vehicles fair.
The trade journal Telematik-Markt.de presents its biennial 'Telematik Award' as a mark of excellence in the vehicle telematics segment. The official event sponsor is the German Association of the Automotive Industry (VDA).
