For its tyre pressure control system AirSave, on 23 September BPW Bergische Achsen KG was presented with the Trailer Innovation Prize 2017 in the components category at the IAA Commercial Vehicles fair in Hanover.
AirSave is an autonomous system that continuously maintains the ideal pressure in the trailer's tyres. It is installed locally in the wheel hub. In the event of a pressure loss, this wheel-end solution automatically triggers a correction to the defined set pressure in every tyre and compensates for fluctuating temperatures. An LED indicates permanent pressure loss or tyre damage and thus enables the driver or repair shop to localise the defect quickly.
In AirSave, BPW has successfully integrated the benefits of both tyre pressure sensing and control. For fleet operators the advantages lie in genuine gains in efficiency and safety because AirSave reduces tyre wear, fuel consumption and emissions. The system does not require any maintenance, or hamper tyre changes, because the compressor that takes care of the automatic pressure adjustments does not need to be dismantled.
The award of this prestigious prize serves as further evidence of BPW Group's development skills and innovation credentials.
The biennial Trailer Innovation Prize is presented in recognition of companies that bring trailer, semi-trailer and body innovation to the market. The jury consists of trade journalists representing 14 European trailer magazines. This year they passed judgement on 72 innovations in seven categories, submitted by entrants from eight countries.
